Welcome to the Fellowships Office of Policy and Global Affairs
The Fellowship Office of PGA administers predoctoral, dissertation, and postdoctoral fellowship programs in research-based fields of study.
The Fellowships Office currently administers the following programs:
- Ford Foundation Diversity Fellowships for Achieving Excellence in College and University Teaching are designed to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students. Predoctoral fellowships support study toward a Ph.D. or Sc.D.; Dissertation fellowships offer support in the final year of writing the Ph.D. or Sc.D. thesis; Postdoctoral Fellowships offer one-year awards for Ph.D. recipients. Applicants must be U.S. citizens in research-based fields of study.
- The Research Associateship Programs administer Postdoctoral (within 5 years of the doctorate) and Senior (normally 5 years or more beyond the doctorate) Research Awards sponsored by federal laboratories at over one hundred locations in the United States and overseas and are given for the purpose of conducting research in areas that are of interest to them and to the host laboratories and centers.
- Jefferson Science Fellows spend one year at the U.S. Department of State as advisers on science policy.
- Vietnam Education Foundation seeks to improve the science infrastructure in Vietnam. Fellowships are provided to Vietnamese students who wish to pursue graduate degrees in fields of science in the United States.
- In the event that none of our fellowship programs are appropriate for you, we have identified other fellowship programs and lists to assist you in locating alternate funding sources for your advanced study.
FELLOWSHIP ROUNDTABLE
We facilitate a bi-annual Fellowship Roundtable for administrators of fellowship programs who wish to interact and promote each other's programs.

The Fellowships Office is a part of the Policy and Global Affairs Division (PGA).
