IOM President Talks About Importance of Real-Time Science During a Pandemic

May 29, 2009 -- Published in Science on May 22, "Epidemic Science in Real Time," an editorial by Institute of Medicine President Harvey Fineberg and Mary Elizabeth Wilson, associate professor of global health and population at the Harvard School of Public Health, talks about the importance of ongoing, real-time science for policymakers during an outbreak such as H1N1 influenza. "By conducting the right science and communicating expert judgment, scientists can enable policies to be adjusted appropriately as an epidemic scenario unfolds."
