Summary: The 1997 International Record Linkage Workshop and Exposition was held March 20-21 in Arlington, Virginia. The workshop had two main goals. The first was to celebrate the Howard Newcombe’s pioneering work on computerized record linkage from the 1950s and the theoretical underpinning of his work which were formalized in the 1960s. The second was to broadly update the methodological and technological developments in record linkage research and their applications.
