History of the Aeronautics and Space Engineering Board

The ASEB was established in 1967, to apply the talents and energies of the aerospace engineering community to important national aerospace policy and technical issues. Its primary sponsors are the NASA Office of the Chief Technologist (Code AT) and the NASA Office of Aero-Space Technology (Code R). From time to time, it also undertakes studies and other activities on behalf of other NASA offices, such as the Office of Life and Microgravity Sciences and Applications (Code U) and the Office of Space Flight (Code M). In addition, ASEB has performed technical and policy studies for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the Defense Nuclear Agency, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Science Foundation, and others.
