Aaron Cohen received his MS in applied mathematics from Stevens Institute of Technology. He also holds an honorary Doctor of Engineering from the same institution and an honorary doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. He is currently a professor of engineering at the Texas A&M University, where he has developed a graduate interdisciplinary systems engineering course. He has served as the director of the NASA Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in Houston. He was involved in the Apollo Program, in which he served as the manager of the Command and Service Module. He has been the Orbiter Project Manager responsible for the design, development, production and test flights of the Space Shuttle Orbiter, and has served as the center director. Dr. Cohen is a fellow of the American Astronautics Society, an honorary fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and a member of the International Academy of Astronautics. He has won numerous awards including eight from NASA. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1988.
